California College of Music is located at 42 S Catalina Avenue in Pasadena, CA 91106. We are four blocks from the California Institute of Technology and six blocks from Pasadena City College; the Metro Gold Line (Lake Station) and the 210, 134, and 110 freeways are all very close to our campus.

California College of Music is home to a world-class suite of recording studios, originally designed and implemented by Grammy-winning engineer-producer Reggie Dozier (Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Outkast) and more recently overhauled by current faculty member George Wiederkehr, M.A. The Studio Master Control and Student Control Rooms are patched to multiple tracking rooms including the Isolation Booth, Live Ensemble Room, Grand Piano Room, Choir Room, and Music Technology Lab - in effect, our entire facility functions as a modular studio!

Our students benefit greatly from production and recording courses including Studio Recording Sessions, Music Technology, Producing in Popular Styles, and Rhythm Section Tracking. Our flagship performing groups such as our Contemporary Ensemble, Groove Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and Pop Choir also frequently make use of our studios to record their repertoire.

Below is a Gear List showcasing some of the excellent equipment available at the California College of Music studios. Our studios are available for rent by special arrangement with the administration; for more information please contact [email protected].

Our facilities include:

• Master Control Room - featuring Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Reason, StudioOne, and Samplitude software, an impressive array of outboard gear including Avalon and Presonus preamps, a MOTU interface, effects processing units, compressors and limiters. Our mic closet features a wide range of microphones to suit a variety of professional recording applications. Rental of our recording studio facilities (with or without an audio engineer) is available by arrangement with the administration; contact [email protected] for more information. Most of the other rooms within our facility are wired to the Master Control Room for recording purposes, and can be used as sonic spaces to capture live performances.

• Student Control Room - featuring Apple Logic Pro X software, outboard gear including Avalon and Presonus preamps, a MOTU interface, effects processing units, compressors and limiters. Designated for student use in developing recorded projects.

• Live Room - an ensemble performance room equipped with amps, keyboards, drums & percussion, a PA system, and microphones. Artist clinics, recording sessions, videotapings, and rehearsals of our Contemporary Ensemble, Groove Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and other various student groups are held in the Live Room.

• Isolation Booth - a quiet space often used to record vocalists or individual instruments, and equipped with a keyboard, a PA system, and microphones.

• Piano Room - equipped with a Kawai 7-foot grand piano, a spinet-style upright piano, nine electronic keyboards, and a sound system.

• Music Technology Lab - includes 14 Apple iMac computers serving as digital audio workstations and outfitted with MIDI keyboard controllers, audio/MIDI interfaces, sound libraries, and Apple Logic Pro X software.

• Music Library - home to extensive holdings of more than 3000 books, magazines, and scores from the field of popular music and beyond, as well as computers for student use and research.
